ANGUS: Tired of winning?!

Who gets tired of being a part of the winners circle but Angus? Let’s examine it critically. He won 5 of the 8 Masters (5/5) on tour and is a 4-time slam champion. But is it only a case of being tired of holding trophies? We beg to differ. Angus has several qualities of a champion but we’re afraid Angus is ‘not hungry’. Angus is the world number one, has the most titles and arguably the most weapons. He is quite candidly the best player on tour; the face of TJTC. He has been at number one for the most times and boast a 39-1 win/loss record and has won 78 of the 80 sets he has played. Powerful statistics one can agree with.

What Angus needs is a new drive! Angus has the qualifications and is building up on his resume for being TJTC’s all time greatest player. But while he struggles to commit to playing competitively this void could possibly be filled by another player who could acquire all that Angus has acquired and all that Angus is yet to achieve.

Let’s start with that shall we? Angus may have won 4 slams but it is not a career slam as the most prestigious of them all is not seen on Angus’ resume, Wimbledon.  He does not possess a medal of any colour and a player of his calibre may want to see an end to his career with a Golden Slam. Mark you, Angus is yet to enter these tournaments but at the end of the day he is without these accolades and this could serve as a new drive, with patience.

Angus is yet to qualify in the number 1 spot for year ending. He is yet to hold down the number 1 ranking in doubles let alone singles and doubles simultaneously. For Angus, the doubles will be a different order for him as he’s mainly a singles player.

In desperation try to see what’s the least number of games you can lose for a single tournament. Start with a few insignificant mark. Whatever you do, any thought of retirement will not be accepted.

Tired of being the hunted? Maybe we need to import players that will cause Angus to think, to give him obvious new challenges! Or maybe we could urge the rest of the tour to step up to the plate and improve our tennis to rival Angus consistently in a set/match. I prefer the latter.

But Angus aint just tired of winning! He's not pleased with the minimal level of respect that people have for the tour. This is one of the reasons why he opted to become the head of our disciplinary board (which will be in full effect starting next calendar year). Players turning up late for their matches and taking the tour outside the 'fun zone' and the occurrence of disputes now and then is putting a sour taste in Angus' mouth. This issue compounds Angus' jadedness. Angus wants to see things being stepped up from admin to players. We all have a part to play in TJTC's success. Whilst we may not be able to take a set from him right right now, let us appreciate the time and energy that he has spent with us bearing in mind that he doesnt have to.

Conclusively, I now charge the rest of the tour. Minimize that gap between us and Angus. Let us focus on making him the most hunted if we intend to keep him with us. But while we're at that let's foster the highest level of professionalism that's needed to take us to our tour vision.

I URGE YOU!
