 Davis Cup Format

6 nations entered Davis Cup, the world’s largest annual international team competition in sport. Davis Cup is structured with 6 teams competing over four weekends during the year.

The 6 teams have been broken down into two groups with 3 being in each, randomly selected. This is the quarter-final staging of the competition and the two top teams will advance from the group stage and progress to the semi-finals.

For the group staging the format is a best of three rubber with 2 singles and a doubles playing best of three tiebreak sets. Then based on the performances and results of the round robin matches the two better teams will advance to the semis. The top team will play the second seeded team from the opposite group.

At the semi-finals and final there will be a best of five rubber format. Two singles will be played first, then a doubles and then the reverse singles. The tie is hosted by one of the competing nations.

The host nation is decided on where the two competing teams played their most recent tie against each other. If a nation had home advantage last time then it will be away next time, and vice versa. If the nations have previously met, or if they faced each other at neutral venue then the choice of ground is decided by lot.
